Sourdough Sue's Bear Lake Lodging - Seward, Alaska
Adventures & Fun
Seward is the northern most ice free port in the US, it's always been the 'Gateway to Alaska' & now is also known as the 'Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park', the surrounding Marine Parks, Harding Ice Fields & Exit Glacier.
Things to do around Seward:
Fish (shore or charter), scenic boat rides, hike the trails,  picnic on the beach & fly a kite, walk around
a glacier, horseback riding & bike trails, tour the hatchery at Moose Pass.

Late summer/fall time there are berries to be picked - salmonberries, wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries & cranberries.  Rhubarb has gone 'wild' here, grows like a weed (a dandelion).
Always keep your eye out for wildlife, they're around & if you're lucky they'll let you take their picture!
4th of July - this is the place to be.  A parade, Mt Marathon 'Iron Man' Race, food booths, raffles, fun races for all ages, the whole town is 'hopping'.
The Salmon Weir is just down the road (you passed it on your left coming here) and helps contribute over a half-million Coho & sockeye salmon in Cook Inlet & Resurrection Bay for commercial & personal use.
Trail Lakes Hatchery: Up the road 15 miles, operates the weir, raises and releases the fingerlings in the spring - tours available.  More information about the state-wide programs at Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association
Exit Glacier:  South 3.5 miles, make a right on Exit Glacier Road and drive to the end (8.5 miles).  Bring a lunch - the river drive has pull outs for picture taking or just enjoying the scenery.  Reminder:  your in bear & moose country now.  There's also ice climbing offered by Exit Glacier Guides.

Our friends at  North Star Charters  will give you a fun day of fishing, with the surrounding scenery thrown in free.

The original Iditarod Trail skirts Bear Lake - north to Goldenfin Lake Ski Trailhead & south to Nash Road.
This trail segment is ~15 miles long, Bear Lake being the halfway point.  Ask your host about the trail.

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race run earlier this year.
